Foundation in Natural and Built Environments

Taylor’s College’s Foundation in Natural and Built Environments is a 1-year full-time pre-university programme designed for students interested in architecture, interior architecture, quantity surveying, construction and other built environment fields.

The programme introduces students to how buildings, spaces and the surrounding environment are designed, planned and developed. It combines creative thinking with practical and analytical skills, helping students explore different built environment disciplines before choosing a specialised degree.

Core areas include Elements in Natural and Built Environments, Introduction to the Construction Industry, Introduction to Drawing, Constructed Landscape, English communication, and Critical and Creative Thinking Skills. Students can also select electives such as Design Basics, Quantitative Techniques, Introduction to Spatial Design, Economics and Public Speaking.

Learning includes lectures, tutorials and hands-on activities, with opportunities for site visits, workshops, presentations and design-related projects. This gives students practical exposure while developing visual communication, observation, problem-solving and spatial thinking skills.

After completing the foundation, students may progress into built environment degrees such as Architecture, Interior Architecture, Quantity Surveying, and Sustainable Digital Construction Management, subject to the relevant degree entry requirements.

For 2026, the programme runs full-time for 1 year, with intakes in February, April and August. The current published local programme fee is RM28,600. SPM and O-Level applicants generally require at least five credits including English and Mathematics, while UEC applicants require at least five Bs including English and Mathematics.
